Supporting Local Businesses Across Iowa Communities

 

 Shop Independence is a shared, full-color direct-mail advertising program for locally owned businesses, organizations, and community events. Mailers are delivered to homes and businesses throughout selected Iowa communities.

 

 Participating businesses share printing and mailing costs, making broad local exposure more affordable. Advertising coordination, local printing, and mailing logistics are managed from start to finish.

 

 Shop Independence focuses on local businesses and does not include national chains, franchises, or big-box advertisers.

What Is EDDM?

 

 Every Door Direct Mail, commonly called EDDM, is a USPS service that delivers mail pieces along selected local carrier routes without requiring individual addresses or a purchased mailing list.

 

Why Direct Mail?

 

 Direct mail places your business inside local homes. It supports your website, social media, Google Business Profile, and word-of-mouth marketing by helping customers see and remember your name.

Advertiser Benefits and Opportunities

Category and Placement Limits

 

 Advertising space and certain business categories may be limited. Similar businesses are separated when possible to maintain a balanced mailer and give each advertiser strong visibility.

 

Ad Design Help

 

 Businesses may provide a completed advertisement or request affordable basic or full ad-design assistance. Design availability may be limited during each campaign.

 

Referral Bonus

 

 Current and previous advertisers who refer a business that signs up and pays may receive a complimentary 30–60 second slideshow-style promotional video.

 

 The referred business may receive early-bird pricing if advertising space remains.

 

Nonprofit Features

 

 Each campaign may include one complimentary small space for a nonprofit or community organization.

 

 To apply or recommend an organization, email nickstoyventure@gmail.com with the organization’s name, contact information, and a brief description of its work.

About the Organizer

 

 Shop Independence is organized and managed by me, Nick Derr, a local small-business owner in Independence, Iowa.

I also own Uncle Nick’s Toy Venture, which buys, sells, and consigns toys and collectibles, and Indee Party Co., which provides table and chair rentals for local events.

 

 As a small-business owner, I understand the need for practical and affordable advertising. I created Shop Independence to help local businesses share mailing costs and reach thousands of homes throughout surrounding communities.

 

Additional Marketing Services

 

 I also offer affordable, project-based marketing help for small businesses that need practical support without hiring a large marketing agency.

 

Services may include:

• Ideas for earning more Google reviews

2027 Mailer Schedule

 

 Three Shop Independence mailers are currently planned for 2027.

 

 The first Independence-area mailer is planned for April 7–8, 2027. Additional communities, mailing dates, deadlines, and advertising availability will be added to the campaign calendar as details are finalized.
